Coalition Holds Advocacy Meeting with MP Boris Mijatović on Transnational Repression
On 26 February 2026, the Coalition Against Transnational Repression in Germany held an advocacy meeting with Mr. Boris Mijatović, Member of the Bundestag (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen), to discuss Germany’s response to transnational repression and the steps needed to strengthen protection for individuals exposed to cross‑border threats.
The Coalition was represented in this meeting by:
- World Uyghur Congress (WUC)
During the discussion, the Coalition highlighted key challenges faced by individuals and communities targeted by foreign state actors, including persistent intimidation, surveillance attempts, digital harassment, and pressure exerted on family members abroad. The meeting also underscored ongoing gaps in reporting mechanisms, unclear protection pathways, and inconsistencies in institutional responses across different authorities.
The Coalition reiterated its consistent position that transnational repression must be addressed as a human rights issue, not solely as a security concern. It emphasized the need for clear documentation systems, improved inter‑agency coordination, and protection measures that are informed by the lived experiences of affected individuals.
The exchange with MP Mijatović reflected growing recognition within the German Parliament of the need for a coherent, people‑centered, and rights‑based national approach. The Coalition looks forward to continuing its engagement with policymakers to ensure that Germany advances effective prevention, protection, and accountability measures against transnational repression.
